1. Be Active Every Day
This is a no-brainer, but it’s still important to remind people every so often. Experts recommend that you exercise at least 30 minutes for at least five days a week. This can include everything from taking a brief stroll in the park to doing a few jumping jacks. Even a trip to the grocery store or even the mall can be beneficial.
Although exercise can be beneficial to your body, it can also be good for your mind. Regular exercise has the power to release endorphins and other feel-good chemicals in the brain that will surely put you in a good mood.
Believe it or not, exercise can also help you sleep better. By exercising often, you’ll be able to fall asleep much more quickly and deeply, which means no more daytime naps and feeling lethargic after lunch.
2. Get Enough Sleep
While on the topic of sleep— be sure to get enough of it! It can be hard to do so when you have a lot on your plate but be sure to prioritize yourself and your well-being by setting aside time to get a full 8 hours of rest.
The amount of sleep that you need to get all depends on your age. Children require about 9-12 hours of sleep while teenagers need 8-10. Adults on the other hand only need about 7 to 8 hours in order to function.
When you get enough sleep, you reduce your chances of getting sick, improve your mood, and even lower your risk of getting seriously ill. Many people have a lot of problems falling asleep, which can be a result of ingesting too much caffeine, drinking alcohol before bed, or can be a symptom of an undiagnosed sleep condition.
The best way to make sure you get enough sleep is to create a set bedtime routine, create an environment that’s comfortable for you to relax in, and avoid caffeine and alcohol hours before you plan on going to sleep. If you are still having trouble sleeping despite making better choices, be sure to see a doctor right away.
3. Eat Better
After the holidays, this tends to be the number one new year’s resolution for people. Eating healthy can be daunting for some people because there’s a common misconception that it doesn’t taste good or can be expensive.
This doesn’t have to be the case, however. Eating healthy can taste good and can be cost-effective. It’s simply a matter of finding recipes that work for your budget and will satisfy your tastebuds.
If you’re looking for ways to eat better, be sure to keep up with not just the type of food that you eat, but make sure your caloric intake doesn’t exceed the calories you are burning.
A well-balanced diet will not only maintain your weight but will keep your heart healthy, keep your bones strong, and reduce your risk of type-2 diabetes, among other things. Be sure that you’re also getting all the necessary vitamins your body needs so that your immune system stays strong and ready to fight whenever you need it to.

I try to get about 6 hours sleep each night. My goal is 8 hours, but that rarely happens because it is not realistic.
Thirty minutes of cardio with light weights is even better! I plan to incorporate more light weights (I am over 50) into my daily routine. Keep up the good work, Emerson!

Healthy options at work is a wonderful blessing. Almonds are a healthy choice that taste good. Small sized fruits are a good idea such as small oranges, apples, and grapes. Foods that are small give you something to snack on without packing in a lot of extra calories.
I wake very early for work and drink a lot of coffee. However, I do tend to stop drinking it around 10 am. Honestly, I don’t know how I would function without it… do you have a substitute suggestion or something I can “add to” in its place?
Many people in the world need coffee to get their day started. Caffeine is fine in small doses, but do not over do it regarding caffeine or energy drinks. The body can become too dependent on them and begin to require unhealthy levels of caffeine to function.
